June
15, 2003 - Eric Wagner and "His Marry Little Band of Misfits"
One of the perils of
using my
real name in this space (in addition to the occasional email
I receive with subject lines like "yore gonna die" and
"you faggot sadam commie") is that I am occasionally mistaken
as a "leader" of the protests and actions I cover.
"Amon," in
a posting
on sf.indymedia.org
said, in reference to the recent Bechtel
shutdown, " Eric Wagner and his marry [sic] little band
of misfits are still pretending that they did something at this
little Bechtel protest?"
Well, it is certainly
true that I like misfits,
however, I would contest Amon's assertion that the misfits who shutdown
Bechtel were all married (though, maybe they were, I really don't
know.) In addition, it would seem that Amon is positing a somewhat
existential
question concerning what doing "something" means. As I
recall (and my photos will attest) the band
of misfits, in addition to driving
some Republicans wild, blocked Bechtel for a significant period
of time. Amon could argue, of course, that Bechtel wasn't really
deterred from it's evil
ways, but, what the heck, you gotta start somewhere.
Most importantly, though,
I am not the leader
of the band. In fact, I am really rather lazy when it comes
the whole political activism / organizing thing. I just show up
to take pictures (In addition to my unedited rantings on this page.)
So, it is time to give credit where credit is due:

this list is hardly inclusive. I profess to be somewhat clueless
concerning who actually organized the Bechtel shutdown -- I am not
one of the "leaders" you know!)
