October 3, 2004 - KKKutest of the Castro
As an alternative to the controversial Cutest of the Castro Beauty Pageant, which was staged as part of the annual Castro Street Fair, members of Gay Shame held their own KKKutest of the Castro event.
Carrying a large banner saying "Body Fascism - Not Cute" the group of about 30 marched through the the fair toward the stage where the pageant was being held.
After being held back about half a block away from the Pageant by a line of police officers, the march continued on to the stage where a somewhat confrontational emcee invited the KKKute protesters to speak.
